The Yarmouk University Remote Lab (YURL) project will revisit the practical training component in the Electrical Engineering (EE) curriculum at the Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, in general, and study the challenges of delivering it online. Based on this, the curriculum will be updated to suit the local context and reflect the latest developments in science and technology. The updated component will take into consideration the online delivery mode perspective, as well.
More specifically, laboratories will be conducted remotely, taking advantage of similar experiences at H-BRS, in two modes:
- The student will be able to connect to a remote server to do the experiment on the server on another equipment connected to the server.
- The student will be able to conduct the experiment at home, with remote and synchronous supervision from the teacher.
The development of a suitable didactical approach and the shift to digital learning will be accompanied by the Centre for teaching development and innovation at H-BRS (ZIEL https://www.h-brs.de/en/ziel) as experienced partner in train-the-trainer activities.
Objectives:
YURL aims mainly to:
- Revisit the Electrical Engineering (EE) curriculum at YU, shedding more light on the practical training component in the curriculum. Based on this revision, the curriculum will be (completely or partially) updated (in terms of content/teaching and evaluation methodologies) to suit the local context and reflect the latest developments in science and technology.
- Consider the online delivery mode perspective in the updated curriculum, taking advantage of H-BRS experiences in that regard.
This project is very compelling, because of two-fold reason. First it considers the dynamic nature of EE disciplines relevant to market needs and technology advances. The other reason is that it adapts to the exceptional circumstances emerged due to COVID-19.
Outcomes/Results:
- The cooperation among the project partners is intensified.
- Remote lab and Take-Home lab technologies have been made known beyond the YU border in Jordan.
- A teaching concept for Take-Home lab teaching has been developed.
- YU students are aware of the possibility to study one semester at H-BRS exchange students.
- German students are aware of the possibility to study one semester at YU as exchange students.
- German and YU students are aware of the possibility to take part in the Workshops/Training courses on remote lab/Take-Home lab.
